A friend of mine had a birthday, so I needed to sew something special. 🙂 She loves bright colors and she spends many hours lovingly cooking for her family, so I decided to make her a fresh set of kitchen towels. Because she is from Hawaii and loves flowers and gardens, I aimed for a vibrant look.
I love to visit the Sookie Sews website. However, it causes two dilemmas when I visit:
1. I want to buy ALL the pretty designs and patterns
2. I want/need more time to sew more!
(Do you remember the glasses case birthday gift I just made for another friend? I bought the pattern for that case from Sookie Sews.)
After browsing around, I finally decided on the Enchanted Spring Set. I only needed two designs for this project, but I know I will use the others soon!
I purchased two Dunroven House 100% cotton tea towels from my local quilt shop – Sew Little Time – thanks Tricia & Misty! One towel is lime green, the other is teal. I love to visit my local store and small business sites. I make great friends and advisors this way and these companies have incredible customer service.
If you notice the pin on the fabric in the hoop – my Bernina 790+ allows me to precisely line up the design so that I can place the design just where I want it. This pin marks the center of the towel and helped me line everything up.
I chose to embroider with Isacord 1311 Date embroidery thread. It may seem like an unusual color combination, but I feel like it’s just right for my friend’s love of Hawaii. The thread is a great contrast to the colors of both towels, and using the same thread brings it together as a set.
Aren’t they darling? I added my initials to the bottom of the embroidery, but the letters were really too tee-niny, so I only did that on one of the towels.
My friend loved the birthday gift! Thanks Sookie Sews and Sew Little Time for helping me create something special!
